JULY FILM OF THE MONTH
Secret Files of the Inquisition
PBS Home Video
Secret Files of the Inquisition tells a story of epic proportions and powerful
themes of Holy Wars and Crusades, of torture and terror, of the struggle for
human rights and dignity. Based on previously unreleased secret documents from
European Archives including the Vatican, Secret Files of the Inquisition unveils
the incredible true story of the Catholic Church’s 500 year struggle to remain the
world’s only true Christian religion. For over half a millennium a system of mass
terror reigned. Thousands were subject to secret courts, torture and punishment.
~Inquisition Productions
It’s hard to imagine the staggering barbarity with which the Roman Catholic
church, which claims to be the only true representative of Jesus Christ on earth,
systematically terrorized the population of Europe and other parts of the world
for over five centuries. When one examines the details of this despicable record,
it is hardly surprising to learn that, at the advent of the Nazi regime in mid-war
Germany, Adolf Hitler and Heinrich Himmler used the Catholic Inquisition as a
model for their secret police.
Filmed in High Definition, in Episode 1, this production spans the Cathar
persecutions in the Languedoc region of Southern France during the 13th and
14th centuries, the Spanish Inquisition in 15th century Spain in Episode 2, the
persecution of the new intellectuals of Renaissance Italy in the 15th to 19th
centuries in Episode 3, and the Jews of mid-nineteenth century Europe in
Episode 4.
This film is available on Netflix.
LACONNEAU AUTUMN FESTIVAL
Laconneau Autumn Festival
Friday, October 31 - Sunday, November 2, 2008
Artemis House, Greenville, NC
The Laconneau Autumn Festival is a rich and deeply meaningful time. It is a time
for remembering our history, which extends from the dimly lit shadows of the
early Christian era through the difficult and dangerous medieval centuries to this
modern age. Through this festival, we celebrate the One we serve as well as all
those women of courage, our sisters throughout the ages, whose courage and self-
sacrifice have allowed us to participate in this rich inheritance. We remember
them not in sorrow but in joy, for this is the time of the inward journey, the giving
up of the old life in the sure knowledge of rebirth.
In full awareness of the disturbing changes that are taking place on a daily basis
in the world around us, never in recent memory has there been a time when it has
been more vitally important for strong women everywhere to join together in an
attempt to find a real solution which truly reflects women’s values, and their
aspirations for the future.
This year, we will continue to hold the Autumn Festival in the old way and in full
accord with the principles of our Tradition. Come join us in Greenville, North
Carolina for this wonderful weekend of comradeship, discussion, feminine
spirituality and festivities. Lend your voice to the power and love of sisters such
as yourself who feel a burning need to see change in this troubled world.

France News:
Laconneau is planning to offer a limited opportunity for a small group of
Tradition members to complete Le Sentier Cathares in the Languedoc in the
Autumn of 2008. More details will be available in upcoming newsletters.
News from the Carolinas:
On Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8, Laconneau of the Carolinas hosted a
Level II class in Greenville, NC. With the growth of Laconneau, we are drawing
women from other areas in the country. We had a wonderful class with women
including women from the Triangle and two women from Florida. For women
who have completed any Level II class, there will be a Level III class offered in
Washington DC August 22 and 23, 2008. Please refer to the Washington DC
calendar online for details:
http://www.laconneau.org/CalendarWashingtonDC.html
The young women's dinner held on June 6th was a success. Several young
women attended, and came away with ideas for further gatherings. Future
dinners are planned for July 12 and July 25
Artemis House in Greenville, NC is available for personal retreats. Overnight
accommodations at Artemis House include breakfast and dinner. Women on
retreat will have access to La Chapelle de la Madeleine for meditation and prayer.
They may also make use of the Laconneau library, which includes books and
films recommended on the Laconneau website. For an additional fee, a sister
who is a licensed massage therapist will be available to come to Artemis House
for those who wish to receive a massage.

Georgia News:
Laconneau Georgia is currently experiencing tremendous growth! We’re so
pleased to be a part of such a large and enthusiastic community of women. In
June, the Georgia circle hosted a Level I Course which exceeded all expectations
for attendance. Women from all over the Southeast attended the class. For all
those who have attended a Level I Course, dates and times of upcoming Level II
classes are available on the website.
Laconneau Georgia enthusiastically welcomes new and experienced meditators
alike to participate in one of our meditation groups. We have active meditation
groups in Gainesville and Decatur and we are now pleased to announce our
newest group in Marietta. No experience with meditation is required. If you have
interest in attending any of our Georgia meditation groups, please email
georgia@laconneau.org for more information.
Pennsylvania News:
As women in the classes learn and use the tools that build a strong foundation
within them, we in turn, are able to continue building a strong foundation for the
community in Philadelphia. With a growing need to take action, the Philadelphia
circle is planning to distribute articles within the city and surrounding areas that
could help influence voters to act and make change within our government.
Washington, DC News:
The Washington circle is looking forward to hosting the Magdalene Seminar on
July 11 and 12 at the Cleveland Park Congregational Church of Christ, two blocks
from the Washington National Cathedral where the seminar was held very
successfully last year. This inspirational seminar, which examines the legend of
the Magdalene, is followed by the Level I course on Sunday, July 13. On July 22,
we will be holding a meditation followed by a dinner to celebrate the feast day of
the Magdalene, using special recipes from biblical sources.
